The Advanced edition adds work across boards and over time, and with it a few more words. Each term is spelled as the app spells it. The words every edition uses are in Glossary.
Across boards #
| Term |
Meaning |
| Portfolio |
Boards that measure compatible flows, read together as one. Work shared by two boards counts once. A board that measures something different is listed apart, with its own numbers. See Portfolios |
| Value stream |
Two to eight ordered stages across a portfolio’s boards, showing where work waits. See Value streams |
| Handoff |
In a value stream, work that one stage finished and the next stage accepted. Work waits between the two events |
| Stakeholder pack |
One page that presents a portfolio’s flows and at least one of a scenario comparison, a roadmap and saved forecasts to everyone who can read the portfolio |
Plans and changes #
| Term |
Meaning |
| Scenario |
A clone of a baseline with assumptions to try. Nothing in Jira changes until you authorize an apply plan. See Scenarios & improvement |
| Baseline |
The scenario of a portfolio that others are cloned from and compared with |
| Probabilistic roadmap |
What a scenario run answers: for each scope, a band of dates from the 50% to the 95% date, not one date. See Scenario results and the apply plan |
| Stream |
In a scenario, a named share of one flow board’s capacity. The shares of one flow add up to at most 1 |
| Apply plan |
A preview of what would change in Jira and in board settings if a scenario’s assumptions were applied. Nothing is written until you review and authorize it |
| Policy experiment |
A changed agreement, such as a lower WIP limit, recorded with a hypothesis. The board’s history before and after the change is then compared |
| Hypothesis |
What you expect a changed agreement to do, written in a policy experiment before the numbers exist |
| Template |
A board’s flow, calendar, layout, WIP policies and saved views, copied so other boards can adopt them. See Templates |
| Governance |
Site rules, set in Administration, for boards a template governs: which boards are in scope, who approves a template and what a board owner may still change |
| Approver |
A Jira administrator, or a person or group the site adds, who approves a template version before it is published. The site can require someone other than the author |
| Rollout |
Applying a template’s published version to chosen boards, after a dry run |
| Dry run |
The first step of a rollout. It shows what would be written on each board, and writes nothing |
| Rollback |
Restoring a board to the version it kept before a rollout wrote to it |
Forecasts over time #
| Term |
Meaning |
| Forecast schedule |
A forecast that runs again on a cadence, after material changes, or both. A material change is enough work items added or removed, or a change in first deliveries, past the numbers the schedule sets. Each run is kept, so you can see how its answer moved |
| Backtest |
A saved replay of past forecasts that shows how often each stated probability came true |
| Calibration |
Checking how often past forecasts came true at the probability they stated. The Calibration tab holds the backtests that do it |
Risk and questions #
| Term |
Meaning |
| Rule |
A saved watch over risk signals on one or more boards, with a severity and an owner. See Risk rules |
| Alert |
What a rule raises when it matches, with an owner who acknowledges it |
| AI investigation |
A question about one board, answered from the same data as Analyze and only from what you can read in Jira. Each fact cites the evidence it rests on: the board, its flow and calendar versions and the instants of the data. It is off until a Jira administrator turns it on. See AI investigation |
| Priority support |
The vendor’s priority queue for requests from an Advanced site |
After a move to Standard #
| Term |
Meaning |
| Retained result |
A result or object made under the Advanced edition, such as a run, a rule, a template or a portfolio, that stays readable after the site moves to Standard. It carries the lozenge Retained result: produced under the Advanced edition: yellow on schedules, backtests, investigations, portfolios and scenarios, purple on a rule or a template, and gray on a policy experiment |
